1. I don't know a lot about English grammar. How will I get through the course and graduate?
A very commonly asked question. Don't worry. It is our job to see that you acquire the grammatical knowledge needed to at least achieve a passing grade. Grammar is an important course module and you will be given ample instruction in the basics needed to become a competent grammar teacher. The way we present this topic on our course makes it fun and easy to understand. There is even an option to receive extra tuition if you want to.
2. Will the evenings be free? And what about the weekends?
Although there are no classes scheduled for the evenings, you will be expected to spend some of this time on lesson planning etc. The weekends are free. We feel it is important to take time out from the classroom and let your hair down now and again.
3. I've never taught before. Will that be a problem?
No, it will not be a problem. By the end of the course you will possess all the skills necessary to confidently step into the classroom. Indeed most of the people who enroll on our course are new to teaching.
4. I am not a native speaker of English, will that affect my chances of being offered a place on the course?
As long as you are competent in all 4 skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), there is no reason why you should not apply.
5. How many hours of observed teaching practice do I get? Who are the students?
There are 6 hours of observed teaching practice. This means that you will receive instruction in lesson planning, classroom management and teaching methodology prior to entering the classroom, teach your lesson and receive feedback from your tutor shortly after the lesson. The students will be a mixture of primary, high school or adults students so that you get as much practice as possible with a varied age group.
6. Do you set an age limit for your courses?
No, there is no limit!
7. What is the average class size?
Average class size is 6 students, sometimes smaller, sometimes bigger.
8. How much will it cost to live in Thailand?
You actually need very little money. Of course, you will want to enjoy yourself during the weekends so you should budget separately for any travelling you wish to do. Accommodation is free on Koh Samui but is an added expense you will need to take into account at other locations. Food is available at any of the market places and restaurants at reasonable prices and is also available free at our school at lunchtimes (Koh Samui only). When you are off campus you will have to buy your own food.
9. Will I have access to a computer?
Yes, there are computers available for your use that are connected to the Internet. You can also connect your laptop to the Internet.
10. Are the trainers well qualified?
Our trainers are very well qualified and extremely experienced in all levels of education in Asia.
11. Where can I find accommodation?
We now offer a great TEFL package that includes accommodation at the Koh Samui school for the duration of the course. This removes the hassle of trying to find a place to stay on your own. Our hotel is very clean and comfortable and within walking distance of the school. Amenities include swimming pool, air conditioned rooms and hot water shower.
12. What are my chances of finding employment soon after graduating?
Most of our graduates find teaching jobs soon after the course ends. During the course we will give you as much help in finding work as you need.
13. What kind of visa do I need?
The best option at present is to apply for a tourist visa before coming to Thailand. This visa will give you 3 months stay in total. This visa can now also be changed to a non immigrant B visa once you secure employment. Education visas can no longer be changedere is not much point in applying for these. Contact us if you need assistance.
14. Should I do some background reading before I start the course?
This is not necessary. We will give all the necessary reading material you need throughout the course.
15. Do I need a college degree to enroll on your course?
No, you do not need a degree to take our TEFL course.
16. What do I need to bring with me?
All course materials are supplied by us. However, you should bring along a set of smart clothes for your teaching practices which are held in local schools. Whiteboard markers are your responsibility and can be bought locally very cheaply.
17. How far in advance can I book a place on your courses?
You may book as far ahead as you like.
18. In what countries can I work after I have earned your certificate?

19. Will you pick me up from the airport when I arrive on Samui?
Yes we will. Just let us know your arrival time and date along with the flight number and we will make sure a member of staff is there to collect you and take you to the hotel. At arrivals look out for your name on a TEFL board.
